The European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addictions (EMCDDA) will present its annual evaluation of the drugs problem in Europe in its Annual Report 2011, to be published on 15 November in Lisbon.
On 20 and 21 September 2011 in Lisbon, Portugal, An Annual Expert Meeting on Treatment Demand Indicator was held.
Over the period April-May 2011 the Municipal Councils for Drugs in the towns of Turgovishte, Gabrovo and Montana, with the methodological support of the National Focal Point conducted school studies.
On 21 and 22 June 2011 Mr Momtchil Vassilev (Director of the National Focal Point) and Antonia Bancheva took part in A Regular Annual Expert Meeting on the indicator “General population surveys”.
Each year around 210 million people worldwide use prohibited narcotic substances and around 200 000 of them die consequently. Still, the challenges related to drug use could be counteracted.
All the people and institutions concerned could download the Annual Report on the problems related to drugs and drug addictions in Bulgaria – 2010.
This was announced in the Annual Report for 2010 published today in Lisbon. A total of 41 new psychoactive substances have been officially reported for the first time to both the agencies in 2010.
At a press-conference held on 26th March 2009 in Sofia, data were presented from a comparative international survey on the use of cigarettes, alcohol and illicit drugs among the 15-16-year-old students in 35 European countries including Bulgaria.

On 8th December 2008 the European Council adopted the Action Plan of the European Union for 2009-2012 in the field of drugs which was proposed by the European Commission in September 2008.
On 26th -27th January 2009 at the Institute of Post-Graduate Qualification at the University of National and World Economy a training seminar was held on topic: ”Development of a National Monitoring System of treatment demand in relation to drug use".
On 06th November 2008 on the premises of the European Parliament in Brussels the Annual Report was presented on the situation of the drug problem in Europe for 2008 prepared by the EMCDDA.
A sociological survey was carried out about the attitudes to and the use of psychoactive drugs among the students from VII to XII class.
On 15 April 2008 in Sofia was presented the international comparative study among pupils ‘Investigation on life and conditions of life of young people in Europe’
On 3 March 2008 Europe responded to concerns over the use of the stimulant drug BZP by subjecting it to “control measures and criminal provisions” across EU Member States.
